STEEL WOOL PHOTOGRAPHY
What can I say about steel wool photography? Hmmm. It’s combining fire and photography together making it quite amazing! For those of you wondering about how its done.. It’s basically lighting steel wool on fire and spinning it around during a long exposure. Most of these shots wouldn’t be possible without the help of my amazing crazy friends including Christopher Hippensteel, Erik Magyar, Andy Guidinger, Ross Zentner and Mason Morris. These dudes are always down for my crazy ideas.
I first tried steel wool photography about 3 years ago. I didn’t know what I was doing and it didn’t really turn out so I lost interest quickly. Then kept seeing these incredible shots online and decided to give it a try on October 11, 2015. I became instantly hooked and have been shooting once a week since!
Instagram has been a never-ending source inspiration for me; seeing what people are doing around the world. I’ve been talking with a few guys in different countries and sharing secrets. And a dozen of Instagram pages have been nice enough to feature my photos. It’s been an amazing 5 months. Thanks for checking this blog out. I will be making a video soon! But feel free to ask questions.
Most photos are shot at f/13, 30 seconds and ISO 250. Many shots I did layer stacking or composites to expose for the background.
